Eva LieberichUnlike older research, which viewed envy as a democratic emotion, this study examines how envy functions in twelfth- and thirteenth-century texts. In cross-genre text analyses, it shows how the narration of envy is used to steer reception and as a medium in which to reflect upon the courtly order. The volume thereby makes a contribution to the debate about the revaluation of so-called negative emotions.
